Purdue Bands and Orchestras to put finishing touches on academic year

April 6, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Bands and Orchestras will close out the academic year with four local performances, in addition to the three-day Spring Showcase.

On April 19, the percussion ensemble will perform "It's Christmas Time … Again" at 2:30 pm in Loeb Playhouse. Under the direction of Pam Nave, this concert will feature more than 40 students, plus Purdue Bells and Purdue percussion alumni. The performance will include a medley of classical and contemporary pieces and is free and open to the public.

The Purdue Bands and Orchestras Spring Showcase is April 24-26. Guest conductor Col. Thomas Palmatier, recently retired leader and commander of the U.S. Army Band, will work with ensembles during the week prior to present a performance. The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 8 p.m. April 24; the Concert, Collegiate and Varsity bands will perform at 8 p.m. April 25; and the Philharmonic and Symphony orchestras will perform at 2:30 p.m. April 26. Cost for the three days is $10, or $5 for students.

The Chameleon Reunion Concert will be 8 p.m. May 2 at the Lafayette Brewing Company. The event will relive a 1970s tour of northern Indiana as the first-call band for festivals, dances and parties. The classic rock band will perform hits from the '70s and '80s with a full instrumentation of guitars, drums, keyboards, vocalists and brass. The performance also will feature Purdue Bands and Orchestra alumni who support the Purdue Jazz Band. Tickets are $10 a person, and all proceeds benefit Purdue jazz bands.

Purdue Bands and Orchestras' "Jazz on the Hill" encourages music fans to make the most of spring's warmer weather and enjoy an outdoor concert at 2:30 p.m. May 3 at Slayter Hill. This concert will feature over 120 jazz band musicians as well as Purdue jazz band alumni. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for comfortable seating. Picnics are also allowed. It is the last event of the 2014-15 academic concert season.
