Conference offers young people chance to learn about dairy industry

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Young people ages 8 to 18 can learn more about the dairy industry at the 2015 Indiana Dairy Youth Conference sponsored by Purdue Extension.
The conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 11 from at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds, 2003 Pleasant St., Noblesville.
Sessions include "Environmental Cow Comfort" and "Dairying in a Changing Climate," which focus on how dairy producers can manage their herds in an environmentally conscious and humane way. Two other sessions, "Taking a Spin in the Land of Guernsey" and "Golden Guernsey Goodness," will teach participants about the Guernsey breed and its golden milk, which has become a popular niche product.
There will also be information about the Indiana 4-H Dairy Youth Academy, a program that aims to develop knowledgeable dairy professionals by helping participants improve leadership skills.
Registration, due April 4, is $15 per person. The fee covers admission, a T-shirt, meals and conference materials.
