Black women in politics, minority representation, political behavior

Nadia E. Brown, Purdue University assistant professor in political science and African American studies, can talk about political behavior and minority representation, especially related to black women in politics, including Congress and individual state legislatures. She is the author of “Sisters in the Statehouse: Black Women and Legislative Decision Making.” Her research shows that while black women politicians come together to support or oppose the same policies, their motivations may vary based on age, religious beliefs and personal experiences. Her work also focuses on how black women in politics present themselves historically and today. Brown also can discuss policy related to gender equity acts such as child care and equal pay.
