Indiana Forage Council annual meeting set for mid-February

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Indiana Forage Council’s annual meeting and seminar on Feb. 19 will focus on improved forage management practices for livestock production.
The meeting will be in the Hoffman Room of Clifty Inn and Falls Restaurant at Clifty Falls State Park, 1650 Clifty Hollow Road, in Madison, Indiana. The annual meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. and is open to IFC members as well as those interested in council news and updates.
An optional dinner, costing $10, will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the seminar at 7 p.m. Seminar participants are not required to attend the IFC meeting.
The seminar will highlight two farms - 3D Valley Farm and the Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center.
Steve Carr, co-owner of 3D Valley Farm, will speak about his beef operation that he manages, using active pasture rotation and ongoing efforts to improve soil fertility.
The other speaker will be Jason Tower, superintendent of the Southern Indiana-Purdue Agricultural Center (SIPAC). Tower oversees the research farm’s projects aimed at improving forage use by cattle and goats. Last year SIPAC began to use techniques to further increase grazing days in a year and to purchase needed stored feeds rather than harvesting them on farm.
“Individuals attending the annual meeting and seminar will have a great opportunity to network with one another and to consider improvements that could be used in their own forage-livestock business,” said Purdue forage specialist Keith Johnson.
