Events to help recognize Disability Awareness Month

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University's Office of Institutional Equity is offering several opportunities in recognition and celebration of Disability Awareness Month.

* Tuesday (March 3). 2:30-4 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 313. "Making Your Community a Livable Community" with Brian Petraits, senior manager of industries at Bosma Enterprises and Purdue graduate.

* March 6. 2-3 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 111. Assistive Technology Center Open House.

* March 10. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142. "Preventing Suicide Among LGBTQ Service Members." Co-presented by Purdue's LGBTQ Center, Veterans Success Center, and Counseling and Psychological Services, and co-sponsored by the LGBTQ Center and Military Family Research Institute.

* March 11. 11 a.m. to noon. Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building, Room 106. "Assistive Technology in Agriculture and Gardening." Presented by the Purdue AgrAbility Project and Life Essentials, manufacturers of assistive technology for agricultural production.

* March 12. 10-11 a.m. Terry Memorial House, Large Conference Room. "Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities (including Autism Safety)." Presented by Purdue's Campus Emergency Preparedness and Planning Office and Purdue University Fire Department.

* March 13. 3-4 p.m. Matthews Hall, Room 210. "Wheelchair Ballroom Dancing Featuring Frank Epperson."

* March 16. Noon-1 p.m. Rawls Hall, Room 1057. "Web Accessibility: What It Is, How It Applies To You, and Helpful Resources." Co-presented by Purdue's IT Teaching and Learning Technologies unit.

* March 16. 3:30-5 p.m. Stanley Coulter Hall, Room 277. "Building Blocks to Creating Accessible Word Documents and PowerPoint Slides." Co-presented by IT Teaching and Learning Technologies.

* March 17. 9-10 a.m. Rawls Hall, Room 1057. "Advance Americans with Disabilities Act Workshop for Supervisors." The Risk Management Employment Claims Initiative Module 2-Americans with Disabilities Act online training is a prerequisite for this course.  

* March 18. 1:30-2:15 p.m. Stanley Coulter Hall, Room 102. "Compliance Sheriff Panel Discussion." Co-presented by IT Teaching and Learning Technologies.

* March 18. 2:30-4 p.m. Stanley Coulter Hall, Room 283. "Compliance Sheriff Training." Co-presented by IT Teaching and Learning Technologies.

* March 19. 9-10 a.m. Rawls Hall, Room 1057. "Advance Americans with Disabilities Act Workshop for Non-supervisors." The Risk Management Employment Claims Initiative Module 2-Americans with Disabilities Act online training is a prerequisite for this course.

Presented by the Disability Resource Center.

* March 25. 9-10:30 a.m. Hampton Hall, Room 31. "Building Blocks to Creating Accessible PDFs." Co-presented by IT Teaching and Learning Technologies.

* March 31. 3-4:30 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 313. "I Wish People Knew …" (panel discussion). Moderated by the Disability Resource Center.
