Appointments, honors and activities

Notables:

-  The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management will induct four members into its Hall of Fame March 28. The induction will be held during HTM's annual Black Tie Dinner. The honorees are:

* Sarah Palisi-Chapin, a 1984 Purdue graduate in restaurant, hotel and institutional management. She is chief executive officer and serves on the board of Hail Merry Snack Foods, a gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO snack and refrigerated dessert manufacturer. She also will give the keynote speech at the Black Tie Dinner.

* James Dora Sr., a 1958 Purdue graduate. He is founder and owner of General Hotels Corp. and is general partner and principal owner of 10 hotels operated by the company. He received an honorary doctorate degree from HTM in 2006.

* Lee M. Kreul, a professor emeritus who served on the RHI faculty from 1975 to 2002. He was instrumental in starting a doctoral program and was a major proponent of the department's study abroad program and exchange program with schools in Malaysia.

* The late Raphael Kavanaugh, professor and head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism for 11 years. During his time at Purdue, he was instrumental in securing the funding for HTM's new home, Marriott Hall. He also was head when the department received its first No. 1 ranking in U.S. hospitality programs. 

- Purdue claimed 34 total awards during the recent American Advertising Federation of North Central Indiana's annual ADDY Awards presentation. The awards honored creative excellence in advertising efforts during 2014. Overall, eight departments and organizations and three individuals at Purdue won 15 silver ADDY awards, 12 gold ADDY awards, the Mosaic Award, the Rising Star Award, Judge's Choice awards and Best of Show awards. The Purdue areas recognized Feb. 24 and their awards are: Purdue Alumni Association, best of show print, best of show campaign, judge’s choice, five gold ADDYs and two silver ADDYs; Marketing and Media, judge's choice, four gold ADDYs and four silver ADDYs; Purdue Research Foundation University Development Office, best of show electronic, one gold ADDY and one silver ADDY; Housing and Food Services Marketing, one gold ADDY and one silver ADDY; College of Liberal Arts, Mosaic Award and one silver ADDY; Office of Research Communications, two silver ADDYs; Convocations, one silver ADDY; Hall of Music Productions, one silver ADDY; Jackie Perkins, housing and food services art director, Rising Star Award; Lindsay Courtney, College of Liberal Arts student, one gold ADDY and one silver ADDY; and Michael Pearson, Purdue Calumet Research and Graduate Studies student, one silver ADDY. Gold ADDY award winners advanced automatically to the district competition in March, which will be in South Bend, Indiana.
