Details of Purdue visit by former Sen. Lugar

November 10, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Former U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar will visit Purdue University on Tuesday (Nov. 11) to speak at a ceremony in which Purdue's forestry and natural resources farm will be renamed the Richard G. Lugar Forestry Farm.

Because of limited seating, the event is by invitation only - not open to the public - but the news media are welcome to cover it.

The ceremony will begin at 1:15 p.m. and end at 2 p.m. at the forestry farm, 555 N. Sharon Chapel Road, off state Route 26 about 2.5 miles west of campus. Also giving remarks will be Jay Akridge, Glenn W. Sample Dean of Purdue Agriculture, and Rob Swihart, head of Purdue's Department of Forestry and Natural Resources.

A mult box will be provided.

The entire ceremony will be held under a tent.

There will be limited interview time with Lugar immediately after the program. News organizations wanting interview time should contact Keith Robinson, coordinator of news and public affairs, Purdue Department of Agricultural Communication, at 765-494-2722 or by email at robins89@purdue.edu.

The 175-acre forestry farm promotes production of improved hardwoods to benefit Indiana's forest products industry. In addition, students use the farm's resources for their research, and the farm is the site of numerous Extension programs.

A news release with more information about the forestry farm and Lugar's connection to forestry and natural resources is at http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2014/Q4/purdue-forestry-farm-to-bear-name-of-former-sen.-lugar.html.

Lugar also will speak on campus at 4 p.m. that day on the topic of global food security. That event, in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall, is open to the public.
