Faculty and staff honors:

- The National Association of Multicultural Engineering Program Advocates (NAMEPA) has named Virginia Booth-Womack 2014 Outstanding Minority Engineering Program Administrator. Booth-Womack is director of the College of Engineering Minority Engineering Program. The award was established to honor NAMEPA members who have made exceptional contributions in pre-college enrichment, recruitment, leadership and retention and recognizes their efforts in increasing the participation of minorities in engineering disciplines. NAMEPA said Booth-Womack was being honored for her volunteerism and service to the organization and for inspiring others to make service a central part of their lives. NAMEPA is a national network of educators and representatives from industry, government and nonprofit organizations who share a common commitment to improving the recruitment and retention of African Americans, Hispanics and American Indians earning degrees in engineering.

  - Tamara Moore, associate professor of engineering education, was one of five young researchers chosen to represent the National Science Foundation at the Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum in Kyoto, Japan, Oct. 5-7. They were among about three dozen under-40 researchers who were invited to participate in the forum, which brought together 1,000 leaders in science and technology, policy, business and media from around the world. The young leaders were chosen for their leadership and for showing an interest in the social significance of their research and a vision of how their work will benefit society. Moore has received the Faculty Early Career Development Award and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Her research and teaching interests are centered on integrating the STEM fields - science, technology, engineering and mathematics - in K-12 classrooms.
