Vegetable Growers Symposium rescheduled for March 4

February 13, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Illiana Vegetable Growers Symposium, postponed because of storms in January, has been rescheduled for March 4.

The program will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST at Teibel's Restaurant, 1175 U.S. 41 in Schererville. Commercial vegetable growers and market farmers can learn about resources and processes to improve their businesses.

Speakers will include faculty and Extension educators from Purdue University and the University of Illinois, and representatives from local farms and the Jasper County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Participants will learn about neonicotinoid insecticides, managing insects in cucurbits, fertilizer recordkeeping, farm to school, high tunnels, and using sanitizers in post-harvest water. There also will be breakout sessions during which participants can choose a session on either soil health or opportunities with leafy greens and aronia berries.

Advance registration costs $20, and the deadline is Feb. 21. Participants can also register at the door for $25, but they will not be guaranteed lunch.
