Crops management clinic to occur in late February

February 7, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Extension Kosciusko County will sponsor a crops management clinic Feb. 25 at the Lake Center Pavilion in Warsaw.

The clinic targets farmers, private applicators and crop advisers. It will focus on a variety of crop management topics, including insect and weed control, fertilizer use, net returns and land values. There also will be an update from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency.

Presenters are Michael Langemeier, associate director for the Purdue Center for Commercial Agriculture; Jeff Burbrink, Purdue Extension educator in Elkhart County; Bob Nielson, Purdue Extension corn specialist; Jamie Garriott, Kosciusko County FSA director; Bryan Overstreet, Purdue Extension educator in Jasper County; and Kelly Heckaman, Purdue Extension educator in Kosciusko County.

The clinic counts for one of the three meetings required for private pesticide or fertilizer applicators. To earn PARP credits, applicators must attend the entire meeting and bring permits to registration.

Clinic organizers have applied for continuing credit hours (CCH) for Category One and RT commercial applicators, as well as continuing education units (CEU) for certified crop advisers.

Check-in will begin at 9 a.m., and the event will conclude about 2:30 p.m. Registration forms are available on the Purdue Extension Kosciusko County website and are due by Feb. 18. The program fee is $20 per person, plus $10 for PARP credit, and includes lunch and a Purdue Corn and Soybean Field Guide.
