Purdue Technology Centers named finalist for international award

ATHENS, Ohio – Purdue Technology Centers, a network of four business incubation programs in Indiana, has been named a finalist for the National Business Incubation Association's (NBIA) 2013 Incubator Network of the Year award.
The other finalist for the award is the University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program in Central Florida.
This is the first year for this new award category. The recipient of the honor will be announced April 9 at the NBIA's 27th International Conference on Business Incubation in Boston.
Purdue Technology Centers' mission is to spur economic growth across Indiana by seeding new technologies, growing companies and new industries, and creating employment opportunities.
Business incubation programs like those in the Purdue Technology Centers' network catalyze the process of starting and growing companies by providing entrepreneurs with the expertise, networks and tools they need to make their ventures successful.
The National Business Incubation Association estimates that in 2011 alone, North American incubators assisted about 49,000 startups that provided full-time employment for nearly 200,000 workers and generated annual revenue of almost $15 billion. Approximately 7,000 business incubators operate worldwide.
About Purdue Technology Centers
The Purdue Technology Centers is a network of four business incubation sites across Indiana operated by the Purdue Research Foundation. The first incubator opened in West Lafayette in 1993, with Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana in Merrillville added in 2005, Purdue Technology Center of Southeast Indiana in New Albany in 2008, and Purdue Technology Center of Indianapolis in 2009. As anchors of each Purdue Research Park, from 1999 to 2010, the parks generated $256 million in investment, $49 million in state and federal grants and $48 million in state and local taxes. The program also helped create 216 companies with a total of more than 4,000 jobs and average salaries of $63,000.
