Fire units respond to fire at fraternity house

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's fire department responded Saturday (April 27) morning to a fire atthe Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, at 1051 David Ross Road, near campus.

Purdue firefighters responded toan active fire alarm at about 6:30 a.m. and discovered the blaze in the Chapter Room, which is an attachment to the main building. Building occupants evacuatedupon hearing the alarm, and the fire was extinguished without further incident.Purdue fire chief Kevin Ply said the fire's cause was determined to be accidental by the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office.

The room was heavily damaged by fire, and smoke spread to the main building. Ply said 17 residents will be placed in Purdue Village housing during the one week remaining in the academic term. The Office of the Dean of Students is working with the students to provide additional services.

West Lafayette Fire Departmentand the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office assisted.
