Diagnostic workshop will help growers identify, manage crop problems

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Extension's Northeast Purdue Agricultural Center will offer a diagnostic workshop June 25 to help corn and soybean growers, crop advisers and pesticide applicators learn more about identifying and managing crop problems.

The NEPAC Diagnostic Training Workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4821 E. 400 S., Columbia City. It will focus on diagnosing and managing field problems such as insects, weeds and diseases. The workshop also will include information on cropping systems, cover crops and 2013 fertilizer regulations.

Topics and speakers:

* "Problem Weeds - Herbicide Resistance and Control Strategies" by Bill Johnson, Purdue Extension weed scientist.

* "Seed Traits, Insecticides and Honeybees" by Christian Krupke, Purdue Extension entomologist.

* "Cover Crops and Conservation Tillage Practices for Good Soil Health" by Eileen Kladivko, Purdue Extension agronomist.

* "Update on Fungicides and disease Management" by Kiersten Wise, Purdue Extension plant pathologist.

* "2013 Fertilizer Regulations Update" by Ed Farris and David Addison, Purdue Extension educators.

Registration of $50 per person is due by June 18 and lunch will be provided. A workshop brochure and registration forms are available at http://www3.ag.purdue.edu/counties/huntington/Documents/DTCFlyerJune13.pdf.

The workshop has been approved for Commercial Category 1, 4, 11, 14 and RT credits (CCHs); Private Applicator Recertification Program (PARP) credits; and Certified Crop Adviser credits (CEUs). PARP credits are an additional $10, and participants need to bring their pesticide applicator cards for registration the day of the workshop.
