Student group hopes community will help 'throw in the towel'

November 9, 2012

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A group of Purdue University students wants community members to throw in the towel - and other personal hygiene items - to help local homeless shelters.

Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, is conducting its Soap and Towel Campaign on Nov. 12-16.

Event organizer Jazna Stannard said the group will be collecting blankets, towels, soap, shampoo and other personal care items that will be donated to local homeless shelters, including Lafayette Urban Ministries. Collection points will be at the Interfraternity Council office in the Purdue Memorial Union, Room 284; the Boiler Volunteer Network office in Stewart Center, Room G4; and the southwest entrance of the Purdue Memorial Union.

The Purdue group is among more than 20 fraternity chapters participating in the collection effort nationally.
