Purdue highlights students with Boilermaker family ties

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue is recognizing five students with Purdue family legacies that extend for decades or are just getting started.
Purdue Marketing and Media has developed a website at https://www.purdue.edu/fivestudents/legacy-makers/index.html that includes information about the students and their family connections.
The five “Legacy Makers” are:
Bailey Farrer of Royal Center, Ind., a sophomore studying animal sciences. Farrer, who will be the 25th family member to graduate from Purdue, grew up showing livestock and participating in 4-H. She was named Reserve Supreme Showman at the Indiana State Fair in 2008 and is Miss Cass County 2012 and runner-up to the 2012 Indiana State Fair queen.
Samantha Feulner of Bloomington, Minn., is a junior studying computer science. Feulner, who will be the 14th family member to graduate from Purdue, is part of the women's swimming and diving team.
Vanessa Hale of Augusta, Ga., is a doctoral candidate in biological sciences. Hale, who will be the ninth family member to graduate from Purdue, spent three years with Teach for America at a high school in Crownpoint, N.M., before pursuing graduate school at Purdue. She also volunteers as a veterinarian at the Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center.
Chris Hanselman of New Palestine, Ind., is a junior in chemical engineering. His parents, and an aunt and uncle graduated from Purdue. Haneselman is one of six first-year students to receive the Beering Scholarship, which covers educational expenses for his undergraduate and graduate studies at Purdue.
Pablo Puente of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, is a senior in management. He was born in Bolivia but grew up in Lafayette, and he is the third Puente son to attend Purdue. Puente is preparing to go to law school to focus on corporate law, and he worked as an intern at J.P. Morgan in Manhattan last summer.
