Appointments, honors and activities

Appointments and promotions:

- Stacey Mickelbart is the new communications and media specialist for the College of Liberal Arts, and her responsibilities include coordinating communications for the college as well as editing THiNK Magazine. Her appointment was effective Oct. 16.

Faculty and staff honors:

- Jeffrey Haddad and Shirley Rietdyk, both associate professors in the Department of Health and Kinesiology, received the Exceptional Engagement Award from Purdue's Center on Aging and the Life Course. The professors have worked with University Place, a continuing-care retirement community in West Lafayette, since 2009 on their balance project. This project is an intervention research project designed to better understand balance and biomechanics in order to prevent falls by older people. -Two Pharmacy Practice faculty members will receive awards at the annual awards banquet of the Indiana Public Health Foundation on Nov. 3. Sonak Pastakia, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, will receive the Tony and Mary Hulman Health Achievement Award in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. The award was established in cooperation with The Indiana Public Health Foundation, Inc., by Mary F. Hulman and recognizes Indiana citizens and organizations whose efforts have resulted in a significant improvement to the human race. Brian Overholser, associate professor of pharmacy practice, will receive the Excellence in Health Science Research Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in health sciences research.
