Editor's note: Since 2010, Purdue Today has invited faculty and staff to recognize the good work of others on campus through its weekly "Thumbs Up" feature. The newsletter periodically will publish an expanded version of this popular feature in an effort to further call attention to employees' excellent work.
Whitney Wood, retail dining associate in Purdue Memorial Union Dining, recognizes Dale Yantis, refrigeration mechanic, for Yantis' work on the refrigeration equipment in the Port in Lawson Computer Science Building.
Wood writes:
"Dale is the level VIII refrigeration mechanic for zone 2. He has really gone out of his way to make sure all the refrigeration equipment is running properly at the Port in the Lawson Computer Science Building through the year.
"Dale routinely comes in to check to make sure everything is still running. If it is not up to his standards, he takes the time to make sure it gets to where it should be. He even takes the time to clean and detail the equipment to make it look as good as it runs. If it is an emergency, Dale always shows up in a timely manner and takes care of the problem quickly. Even when I thought an older machine could no longer run, he spent time fixing it and replacing parts to bring it back to life, saving us the financial burden of a new machine. He has worked some long hours but always made time out of his day to swing by and take care of things, even without asking him to.
"Refrigeration is vital to a food service store such as ours. I really appreciate having him around as he gives us peace of mind about making sure the food is safely kept. Dale is always a hard worker who does a great job and can be trusted to tackle any task at hand."
