PURCE webinar to focus on who uncovers fraud
The Purdue University Research Center in Economic (PURCE) webinar on March 25 will focus on the extent to which auditors are incentivized and equipped to uncover fraud.
Jonathan Black, assistant professor of accounting, will present "Fraud Happens – But Who Uncovers It?" at 11-11:45 a.m. Kevin Mumford, the Kozuch Director of PURCE and associate professor of economics, will host the live webinar and moderate a Q&A following Black's presentation.
In common belief, auditors are supposed to ensure that publicly traded companies are free from fraud. However, auditors reveal only a small portion of fraud. Given that other actors may be better incentivized and better able to reveal fraud, Black will talk about how recent auditors disclosure requirements might help to reveal corporate fraud more quickly.
Registration is available online. A Zoom link will be provided in the registration confirmation email.
