PURCE webinar to focus on using goals to motivate college students

The Purdue University Research Center in Economics (PURCE) webinar on Nov. 19 will focus on using goals to motivate college students.

Anyone who teaches, mentors, or advises college students will benefit from this webinar featuring Victoria Prowse, PURCE faculty affiliate and associate professor of economics at Purdue. Prowse will discuss her research involving nearly 4,000 college students that shows task-based goals had robust positive effects on task completion and also increased course performance. Performance-based goals had positive – but small – effects on course performance. Her findings have implications for educational practice.

Prowse is an empirical microeconomist who explores how cognitive skills and preferences affect effort, learning, and life outcomes including educational attainment and inequality.

The webinar will be held at 11-11:45 a.m., and registration is available online. A Zoom link will be provided in the registration confirmation email.
