Healthy Boiler Program incentives for 2020 still available; 2021 program begins Jan. 1

Benefits-eligible employees and spouses covered on a Purdue health plan still have time to meet the requirements for the 2020 Healthy Boiler Program wellness incentives. In response to COVID-19, the deadline has been extended to Dec. 31 to allow additional time for employees/spouses to have their annual physical/biometrics completed.

Those who complete a physical and biometrics screening and submit it via the Healthy Boiler Portal by Dec. 31 can earn $325 (employee only) or $650 (employee + spouse, employee + child or employee + family). Both the physical and biometric screening are provided at no cost to employees on all Purdue medical plans as preventive benefits. Physicals can be performed at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, the Campus Health Clinic on Purdue Fort Wayne’s campus or a community provider of choice. Purdue Northwest employees also have health care facility options on the Westville and Hammond campuses.

Physicals/biometrics screenings completed in 2020 count toward the 2020 Healthy Boiler Program and do not carry over for the 2021 program incentives.

2020 Healthy Boiler incentive FAQ

Q: What if I’m due now for my physical?

A: Purdue’s medical plans allow for one preventive physical per calendar year; therefore, you can receive a physical in 2020 and have another physical in 2021 for the 2021 Healthy Boiler Program wellness incentive.

Q: Can I do the physical again now and just submit the form in January for 2021?

A: No. Physicals must be completed during the 2021 incentive year (Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2021) in order for employees/spouses to be eligible for the incentive in 2021.

Q: If I complete and submit my physical and biometrics screening in December 2020, when will I get my funds?

A: Funds will be available to you by the end of January 2021. Funds for those participating in a health savings account (HSA) will be deposited into their HSA. For those who aren’t eligible for an HSA or those who have opted out of a Purdue health plan, funds will be deposited into a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). The HRA funds can be used on eligible expenses incurred from Jan. 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2021 (unless employee leaves Purdue or loses eligibility).

2021 Healthy Boiler incentive requirements

In 2021, funds will be earned by having an annual physical completed ($200), and if a biometrics screening ($125) is completed as well, a total of $325 per employee and/or spouse can be earned. Employee-only coverage can earn $325 and employee + spouse, employee + child and employee + family coverage can earn a total of $650 if both the employee and spouse complete both steps. The 2021 incentive year runs from Jan. 1, 2021, through Dec. 31, 2021.
