Appreciation Award – additional HR information

As President Mitch Daniels announced on Wednesday (Nov. 25), all West Lafayette faculty, staff and graduate student staff hired on or before Sept. 1, 2020, with the exception of those in executive-level positions, each will receive a $750 Appreciation Award. Those who work less than full-time will receive a prorated amount. Biweekly staff will receive the payment in their Dec. 30 payroll, and monthly staff will receive the payment as part of the Dec. 31 payroll. The payment will show as “Bravo” in the Earnings section under "CURRENT PAY" on the pay statement.

Some guidelines for the appreciation payment:

  • Employees who were employed on or before Sept. 1, 2020, but leave the University -- whether by termination or retirement -- before the payment is made will not receive the payment; faculty and staff must be employed at the time of the payout.
  • Student employees and temporary employees will not receive the appreciation payment.
  • Employees who do not work a full-time schedule will receive a prorated payment. For example, an employee who works 50 percent FTE would receive 50 percent of the payment, or $375.
  • Voluntary retirement contributions will apply to those contributing to a voluntary retirement plan based on their current contribution election. Employees enrolled in Civil Service, PERF and PMRS retirement programs will receive University contributions on the Appreciation Award. Faculty and staff participating in the PSRS retirement program will not receive University contributions on the award.
  • The payment is subject to the supplemental tax rate of 22 percent for federal income tax withholding. Normal tax rates apply for Social Security, Medicare, state income and county income tax withholdings.
