Our Homes, Our Health: Purdue Policy Research Institute co-hosting webinar series

The Purdue Policy Research Institute (PPRI) is collaborating with Penn State’s School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs and Habitat for Humanity (Asia Pacific) to host the summer webinar series Our Homes, Our Health: Advancing an Inclusive Agenda for Building Performance, aimed at exploring the intersection of health and housing today.

The series examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the living situations of people around the world. “Global Health and Resilient Housing,” the second episode in the series, will be broadcast live on YouTube at 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday (June 17).

This webinar installment will examine the critical resilient housing gaps that make managing pandemics difficult. Experts in global health, disaster risk reduction, policy and science communication will speak on the recurring systemic and emerging risks relative to this topic. By addressing housing issues from an interdisciplinary perspective, experts will discuss potential strategies for increasing home safety and human welfare and evaluate how communication can be deployed to engage with affected communities more effectively.

“We were incredibly delighted with the public enthusiasm shown for the first webinar, as well as the support from the U.N. [United Nations] and USAID [U.S. Agency for International Development] representatives,” said Esther Obonyo, director of the Global Building Network and associate professor of engineering design and architectural engineering at Pennsylvania State University.

Stacey Connaughton, PPRI’s director and a featured speaker for “Global Health and Resilient Housing,” said, “For the next part of the series, we are looking to target youth at Purdue and around the world. Speakers will be catering their content to address college-age youth.”
