Mortar Board now accepting nominations for annual awards

The Barbara Cook Chapter of Mortar Board is now accepting nominations for its annual student, faculty and staff awards. Nominations will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. March 1.

The Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion Award

To continue and remember the legacy of Dean Helen B. Schleman, who served as dean of women from 1947 to 1968, the Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion Award is presented to a deserving faculty member or administrator for their contributions to Purdue, especially in the promotion and advancement of women students and women’s issues.

The nomination form can be found on the Mortar Board BoilerLink page.

Submit a statement of achievements and a curriculum vitae for the person being nominated. Additional letters of recommendation and materials from colleagues and current and former students are strongly encouraged.

The selection criteria are as follows:

  • Has contributed significantly to the promotion and advancement of women, both for students and women’s issues.
  • Has served at least five years at Purdue as a faculty member or administrator.
  • Has provided leadership and service within and beyond the University community.
  • Lives by the principles of scholarship, leadership, and service.

The 2020 Helen B. Schleman Gold Medallion recipient will be presented with a commemorative medallion and a monetary gift, as well as be invited to serve as the keynote speaker at the annual Mortar Board Initiation Breakfast in April. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

The Rose Award

This award is a way to acknowledge members of the clerical or service staff at Purdue who consistently go "above and beyond" in performing the duties of their job but may not receive the recognition they deserve. Up to 12 members of the staff are honored with a certificate and small surprise tribute at their workplace.

The form to nominate for this award is available on the Mortar Board BoilerLink page.

For more information on the awards, contact Joseph Merlino, chair of awards and fellowships for Purdue's Mortar Board Chapter, at jmerlino@purdue.edu.
