National Nurse Practitioner Week underway; NPs at CHL provide range of care

National Nurse Practitioner (NP) Week runs this week through Nov. 16. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners says that the annual week of recognition is held to celebrate the NP as the health care provider trusted by millions of people around the country and to increase awareness of the care that NPs provide.

There are 270,000 NPs licensed in the U.S., two of whom happen to work at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus.

NPs at the CHL

Nisha Bogosian and Kimberly Porter, those NPs, focus not only on diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illness, but also integrating health promotion, disease prevention, counseling and patient education to help patients make smarter health and lifestyle choices and to understand their complete health picture. NPs provide diagnoses to patients and prescribe medicine in all 50 states, and they are the health care provider of choice for millions of Americans.

Patients can establish an NP as their primary care provider as well. A comparison between an NP and a medical doctor (MD) offers information about their roles.

According to Bogosian, providing quality, compassionate, consistent care is important. “The care that I provide to my patients is the same care that I would provide to my family, and also myself," she says. “It is my goal to prevent, treat and conquer any problems my patients have by working together as a team. At the Center for Healthy Living, you are at the center of all we do.”

To schedule an appointment with Bogosian or Porter, call CHL at 765-494-0111 or use the patient portal. The center is open for medical appointments 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Lab hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Healthy Boiler 2020 incentive reminder

As a reminder, the Healthy Boiler wellness incentive requirement for 2020 is completing an annual physical with biometric screening, and Bogosian and Porter can provide that service, too.

Those who get their annual physical and biometric screening between Oct. 1, 2019, and Sept. 30, 2020, can earn incentives of $325 (employee-only coverage) or $650 (employee plus spouse, employee plus child, employee plus family coverage) as additional money for their health savings account (HSA) or health reimbursement account (HRA). Incentive payments will be made on a quarterly basis in January, April, July and October 2020 through the employee’s HSA or HRA account.

The Healthy Boiler Program is a multifaceted approach to overall well-being composed of five pillars: behavioral health, financial wellness, physical health, social wellness and work-life integration. For more information on the Healthy Boiler Program (including how to use the Healthy Boiler Portal), employees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Healthy Boiler website.
