Faculty invited to meet The Conversation editors

Purdue is partnering with The Conversation, a nonprofit news organization that publishes news analysis essays from university faculty members and distributes those pieces to newsrooms across the country via the Associated Press through a Creative Commons license.

Representatives from The Conversation will be on the West Lafayette campus Nov. 19-20 to meet with faculty members interested in pitching ideas for essays. Faculty members from any Purdue campus are welcome to attend.

Libby Richards, associate professor of nursing, wrote an essay on flu shots for The Conversation in late September, and her article appeared in CBS Marketplace, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Quartz, and several other outlets. It was read more than 200,000 times in those outlets, and had an additional 116,000 shares on Facebook.

"The entire process was seamless," Richards says. "The editors were very responsive and provided suggestions that enhanced the article. The start-to-finish process took only two days. I am amazed at how far the article has reached across the globe."

Several colleges have set up meetings for their faculty members, but an open, bring-your-own-lunch session will be held noon–1 p.m. Nov. 20 in Knoy Hall, Room B29. Any Purdue faculty member is welcome to attend this session.
