Purdue to host ninth annual Conference for Pre-Tenure Women

The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence in collaboration with the Office of the Provost will hold the ninth annual Conference for Pre-Tenure Women on Sept. 6-7. This year’s conference theme is "Navigating Early Careers for Academic Success."

Offered in the fall each year since 2010, the conference brings pre-tenure women faculty from across the country together on Purdue’s campus to discuss, share information, learn strategies and meet with others in an effort to raise women’s success in earning tenure. Although this conference focuses on women in pre-tenure, clinical and postdoc positions, the strategies and insights offered by the keynote speakers and panelists in the breakout sessions are useful for all women pursuing academic careers. Men are welcome to participate.

Keynote presentations will be made by:

 * Teresa Sullivan, president of the University of Virginia, on "Glassy Ceilings, Grassy Traps: 21st Century Higher Education Careers."

* Mia Tuan, dean of the College of Education at the University of Washington, on "Embracing Forks in the Road: One Woman’s Journey into Administration."

Registration, which must be completed by Sept. 5, is available here. Cost for the conference:

* General registration by Sept. 1: $175

* General registration after Sept. 1: $225
* Purdue graduate students and postdocs registration: $50

Purdue faculty attending the conference, even if only the keynote presentations, must register. Faculty should email the Butler Center at butlercenter@purdue.edu for special pricing before registering.

More information, including the conference schedule, workshop, and panel sessions, is available online. An FAQ on the conference also has been posted.
