Anthem wellness program plus other resources available for expecting, new parents
Future Moms, a relatively new wellness program from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, is a program that can answer questions, help expecting parents make good choices and follow their health care provider's plan of care. Additionally, it can help women have a safe delivery and a healthy child.
Participating in the Future Moms program also will count toward needed wellness activities to receive the Healthy Boiler incentive. For expecting moms, the program will satisfy the health coaching category below for wellness activities:
* Participate in four or more health coaching sessions. May include health coach, stress management, mental health, personal trainer or registered dietitian (virtual or in person).
For expecting dads who participate in the program with the expecting moms, the program will satisfy the wellness education category below for wellness activities:
* Participate in a wellness education series. Series must consist of three or more sessions.
As a reminder, employees and participating spouses have until Sept. 30 to complete and log their completed objectives into the Healthy Boiler portal in order to receive incentive dollars for the 2018 program.
Future Moms program
Once pregnancy is confirmed, individuals can call Anthem toll-free at 800-828-5891 and a registered nurse will get them started.
The program provides helpful resources and tools throughout pregnancy and delivery, including:
* A toll-free number so women can talk to a nurse coach 24/7 about their pregnancy. A nurse also may call them from time to time to see how they’re doing.
* The “Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy” book, which shows changes to expect for mom and baby during the next nine months.
* A screening to check health risk for depression or early delivery.
* Other useful tools to help expecting moms, their doctor and their Future Moms nurse keep track of the pregnancy and help them make healthier choices.
* Free phone calls with pharmacists, nutritionists and other specialists, if needed.
* A booklet with tips to help keep expecting moms and their new babies safe and well.
* Other helpful information on labor and delivery, including options and how to prepare.
Participants also will receive a welcome kit, which includes a welcome letter and a maternity care diary. At 28 weeks, participants will receive a follow-up letter and the Labor, Delivery & Beyond information booklet. After the baby is born, participants will receive a birth kit with a program completion letter and Nurture book with newborn information.
The Future Moms program is available at no cost to benefits-eligible faculty and staff covered on a Purdue health plan as well as spouses and dependents ages 18 through 25 covered on a Purdue health plan.
Lactation Support Program
The Lactation Support Program supports breastfeeding mothers at work. Research has shown lactation support from an employer helps to lower health care costs, turnover rates and absenteeism while increasing employee and student productivity and morale.
To help mothers be successful in their transition back to work after having a child, the program includes resources such as locations of all campus lactation spaces and a mother's information packet. Additional resources available include how to obtain breast pump and supplies or lactation consulting through University medical plans, as well as local and national resources for additional support.

Healthy Boiler Wellness Program
In 2018 Purdue University, in partnership with the Center for Healthy Living on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, introduced its Healthy Boiler Wellness Program to promote wellness within the University population. Healthy Boiler encourages employees to engage in their health and wellness by identifying a primary care provider, having an annual physical and biometrics screening and participating in wellness activities; offering benefits-eligible faculty and staff -- as well as spouses covered on a Purdue medical plan -- the opportunity to earn up to $500 in incentives to participate.
1. Identify primary care provider. $50, employee or spouse only. $100, employee and spouse.
2. Complete a physical and biometrics. $100, employee or spouse only. $200, employee and spouse.
3. Complete two pre-approved wellness activities. $100, employee or spouse only. $200, employee and spouse. To qualify for this incentive, the pre-approved activities must be completed and logged into the wellness portal from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, and must be from two separate categories.
