Nominations invited for exemplary community partner award

Purdue will recognize a community organization with an annual award to be presented in early 2018.

The Dr. JoAnn L. Miller Exemplary Community Partner Award, which carries a $1,000 cash prize, showcases the University's appreciation of agencies in Greater Lafayette that contribute to the growth of students by providing volunteer and educational opportunities, according to Mike Piggott, director of community relations.

Faculty, students and staff are asked to nominate nonprofit agencies, schools or governmental units that have demonstrated excellence in creating and sustaining opportunities for engaging Purdue students in volunteerism or service-learning.

Nominations should be made online at JoAnn Miller Exemplary Community Partner Award Nomination.

Nominators will be asked to upload a statement from a current or recently graduated Purdue student explaining how involvement with the agency has influenced their life and education. Another statement from a faculty or university staff member should contain anecdotal evidence of how the agency has bolstered student learning and development.

The deadline for submission is Dec. 15. The award will be presented at halftime of the Purdue women’s basketball game on Jan. 18.

Previous winners have been the Drug Free Coalition, Hanna Community Center, Food Finders Food Bank and the Wabash Center.
