Virta Health offers upcoming information sessions, webinar for all campuses on new type 2 diabetes treatment
Purdue has partnered with Virta Health to offer a new benefit, valued at $4,950, free to all benefits-eligible employees and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
In the last five months, more than 190 Purdue employees, including Kim Canine, housing business process analyst in university residences/resident life, have joined Virta to take control of their health, lose weight, reduce medications and better manage their blood sugars.
Canine had lived with type 2 diabetes for two years and was on diabetes and blood pressure medications when she first enrolled in the Virta clinic. Canine was able to stop taking all of her diabetes medications within one month of starting Virta. Now, she has reduced her A1c below the diabetic range, is off all diabetic and blood pressure medications, has improved energy levels and has lost 60 pounds.
Virta is available to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and spouses/adult dependents from 18 to 69 covered on a Purdue health plan. This benefit is currently being offered to patients with type 2 diabetes, as well as individuals with prediabetes with a body mass index, or BMI, of ≥ 35. There are some serious medical conditions that would exclude patients from the program.
