Purdue gears up for Homecoming 2016

Campus will be filled this weekend with many alumni, family, friends and fans of the University, and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone involved in Homecoming.

FRIDAY

Free Ride Fridays: The Purdue Reamer Club will continue the tradition of Free Ride Fridays for the 2016 football season. Each Friday before a home football game, the Boilermaker Special will pick up and drop off riders from noon to 3 p.m. west of Stewart Center by Memorial Mall. Rides will be given about every 15 to 20 minutes, weather permitting. Check https://www.facebook.com/ReamerClub or https://twitter.com/ReamerClub for updates.

Boiler Bridge Walk: Every Friday before a home game, Purdue fans are invited to join the Boilermaker football team as it crosses the Myers Bridge connecting West Lafayette and Lafayette. Activities begin at 5:45 p.m. at the fountain at the west end of the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge. The football team arrives about 6 p.m., greets fans, and then walks over the bridge to Riehle Plaza. Free. More details are here.

Homecoming Parade: Celebrate homecoming at the Boilermaker Night Train Parade beginning at 7:30 p.m. The route starts at the corner of Pierce and State streets, and ends at Stadium Avenue and Martin Jischke Drive. A map is available here. The floats will be decorated in this year's theme, "It's a Bird … It's a Train … It's Homecoming 2016!" Parade participants include the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band and student organizations.

Women's volleyball: The Boilermakers host perennial national power Penn State at 8 p.m. Details

SATURDAY

Boilermaker Crossing: Purdue fans can meet the teams, play on inflatable games, get prizes, listen to live music and more at the family-friendly Boilermaker Crossing at 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Weist Plaza between Mackey Arena and the Brees Center's Holloway Gymnasium side. The event is free.

211° Session: Join the football team and "All-American" Marching Band at 9:49 a.m. in Mackey Arena.

Homecoming celebration: Activities including displays, demonstrations and performances will be held 9-11 a.m. between Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering and Schleman Hall on Stadium Mall.

Wrestling: Join Purdue wrestling for its first practice of the season at the "Practice on the Patio" at 10 a.m. at the south end zone of Ross-Ade Stadium. Requires tickets to Purdue-Iowa football game; entry available at 9:30 a.m. Details

Homecoming king and queen crowning ceremony: See who wins king and queen at 10:45 a.m. on the main stage on Stadium Mall.

Purdue football vs. Iowa: The Boilermakers welcome the Iowa Hawkeyes for a noon kickoff at Ross-Ade Stadium. Details

Volleyball: The Boilermakers take on Rutgers at 8:30 p.m. Details
