Purdue's United Way campaign heading into final weeks

October 29, 2015

As it nears the end of its 2015 campaign, Purdue United Way would like to remind those employees planning to give to make their pledge or donation. The campaign needs all those who gave last year to give again this year to reach the $760,000 goal. As of Oct. 27, the campaign had raised $594,019.59, or 79 percent of the goal.

Becky Hershey, director of Purdue United Way, says leaders hope to reach this year's goal by Nov. 10, but donations toward the 2015 campaign will be accepted through 4 p.m. Nov. 19. Donations may be made to United Way after the campaign but will not be counted toward the 2015 campaign goal.

This year's Purdue campaign theme is called "Windows of Opportunity." The Purdue campaign's goal is about 15 percent of the overall $5 million campaign goal of the United Way of Greater Lafayette, which the Purdue campaign supports.

Faculty and staff may contribute to Purdue's campaign by indicating an amount on a pledge card and choosing among several methods -- payroll deduction, one-time direct donation, or quarterly, monthly or one-time billing. Employees may designate that their donation go toward one of the community initiatives of the United Way. All faculty and staff who have not received a pledge card can print one at www.purdue.edu/unitedway/pledgeforms.html.

Donations also may be made via credit card by visiting www.uwlafayette.org/givenow-purdue.html.

"A contribution today to the United Way is an investment for tomorrow," Hershey says. "Many of our own faculty, staff and students that we work alongside every day may have used United Way programs or partnering agencies in the past or may be accessing services today. While none of us wishes to ever have a need, we never know what life will bring. By participating in the Purdue United Way Campaign, we are ensuring that the United Way services will be sustained and available when and if the need ever arises."

The approach of Purdue's United Way campaign is to ensure that all employees have the opportunity to make an informed decision about whether and how much to give to United Way. Giving is voluntary and confidential. Purdue United Way trains volunteers in the non-coercion policy set by United Way of Greater Lafayette.
