Employee Self Service Online Leave Tool process expedited for exempt employees, supervisors

December 17, 2015

An enhancement to the approval process for the Employee Self Service (ESS) Online Leave Tool currently used by many exempt employees at all campuses will be effective Jan. 4.

A new "automatic approval" feature has been added, meaning that if supervisors have not logged in and approved or rejected leave time within 14 days of when an employee requests the time off, the system will automatically approve the time.

Supervisors will continue to receive emails that include the details of the request when an exempt employee requests time off. The automatic approval step will eliminate the need for supervisors to log in under the manager self-service tab to approve time if they agree with the time off. Once the leave has been automatically approved, the employee has the ability to change/delete the leave request if necessary.

The implementation of the new feature is based on feedback from employees and supervisors and is intended to make the online leave process easier and more efficient.

The online ESS leave tool is available for use by all exempt staff, including academic-year (AY) faculty.
