Parent, caregiver workshop to focus on young children's language skills
May 26, 2015
Purdue Human Resources will host a family-friendly workshop on building language skills in children from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday (May 28) in Stewart Center, Room 204. Registration is due Wednesday (May 27). Limited seats are available.
Children hear many different words and sounds throughout the day in conversations, storytelling and singing and while talking to themselves. Maximizing these opportunities for children starting at birth helps them to master language skills.
The "Keep Talking: Building a Language Rich Environment" workshop, designed for parents and caregivers of children birth to 5 years old, will explore how to support children in building language skills through a rich language environment. This workshop is part of Parenting Counts, a research-based curriculum to support parenting, and will be presented by Kathy Murray from Purdue Extension.
The workshops are open to faculty, staff, students and spouses/same-sex domestic partners. Those attending are encouraged to bring lunch to eat while listening to the presentation. Time for asking questions and networking with other attendees will be offered.
To register for this or any other upcoming family workshops, call 49-60312 or email familyfriendly@purdue.edu.
