Food drive to take place before, during Spring Fling

May 4, 2015

Before and on May 21 during Spring Fling, the Purdue University Retirees Association (PURA) once again will sponsor a food drive to benefit surrounding communities.

Spring Fling attendees are encouraged to drop off at least one nonperishable food item in the barrels outside the Stewart Market on the main floor of Stewart Center or outside Starbucks in Purdue Memorial Union. The food may be dropped off in the days leading up to Spring Fling or on the day of the event. Spring Fling will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Córdova Recreational Sports Center.

The food will go to Food Finders Food Bank, which works with 120 partner agencies to bring food to the needy in 16 Indiana counties. Sixty-six of those agencies are in Tippecanoe County, and Food Finders is based in Lafayette.

The food bank needs peanut butter, noodles, cereal, coffee, soups and stews, pasta and meat sauces, fruit juices, meals in a can or box, canned fish and meat, canned fruit and vegetables, macaroni and cheese, boxed rice and potatoes, paper products, laundry products and personal care items.
