Black Caucus of Faculty and Staff to present student honors

April 16, 2015

The Purdue Black Caucus of Faculty and Staff will honor student achievement Saturday (April 18) at its 40th annual Academic and Service Awards Program.

The event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom, will feature a keynote address by Kassandra Agee-Chandler, a Krannert School of Management alumna and founder and principal consultant of Systematic Design Consultants in College Station, Texas. Agee-Chandler, who was Purdue's first African American homecoming queen and former president and founding member of Purdue's Society of Minority Managers, also previously held positions at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, Exxon, Dow Chemical and Procter & Gamble.

Provost Deba Dutta also will give remarks at the program. The event is free and open to the public.

At the event, the caucus recognizes African American students who have distinguished themselves by strong academic performance and noteworthy service and leadership. It is the only such event at Purdue sponsored directly by both faculty and staff members and honoring undergraduates across all colleges and units on the West Lafayette campus.

Apart from graduation, this event attracts one of the largest gatherings of African American families at Purdue. In addition to special awards, all students meeting grade-point criteria will receive certificates and gifts.
