'Speak Up': Purdue Hotline accessible online, by phone

A co-worker stealing packages of pens and paper from the office supply cabinet. A colleague working on a freelance project during normal business hours with university resources. If faculty or staff suspect that someone is engaging in unethical or illegal behavior, the Purdue Hotline provides a safe, anonymous way to "Speak Up" -- and do the right thing.

A "Speak Up" campaign is reminding and encouraging faculty and staff to speak up about unethical or illegal behavior by reporting it through the Purdue Hotline, which is easily accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week by phone or online.

The Purdue Hotline allows individuals to anonymously report suspected violations of University policies, fraud, waste, abuse of University assets, regulatory noncompliance or other inappropriate activities.

Employees can report through the Hotline by:

* Going online to www.purdue.edu/hotline.
* Clicking on the "Speak Up" button in the upper right-hand corner of the Purdue home page at www.purdue.edu.
* Calling 866-818-2620.

Posters and other materials that publicize the Purdue Hotline are available through the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance by calling 49-45830.

Reports may be submitted for incidents or activities involving Purdue's West Lafayette, Calumet, North Central and Fort Wayne campuses, College of Technology Statewide, Purdue Extension, Purdue Agriculture and all other Purdue sites.

Reports will be handled promptly and discreetly; however, sufficient and detailed information is necessary to conduct a thorough investigation. Individuals may choose to report anonymously. Those who choose to identify themselves will not suffer retaliatory action for reporting or inquiring in good faith. The University's policy on Protection Against Reprisal for Good Faith Disclosures (Whistleblower Protection) is available at www.purdue.edu/policies/pages/ethics/x_1_2.shtml.

Anyone who makes a report will be supplied with a confirmation number, which allows the person to check back in 14 days to see the status of the report. This feature also allows Purdue administrators to request additional information if the person making the report requested anonymity.
