Faculty, staff encouraged to participate in ongoing Recyclemania
March 7, 2013
Halfway through this year's Recyclemania competition, which ends March 30, the Office of University Sustainability encourages Purdue faculty and staff members to recycle any remaining unneeded files and paperwork.
Recyclemania involves participating institutions across the U.S. and Canada. These institutions report the amount of materials recycled and trash collected each week. Each institution is then ranked weekly in various categories based on its recycling rate, total volume of recycling and least amount of total waste.
After the third week of this year’s competition, Purdue is ranked 79th out of 250 institutions in the Grand Champion category and ninth out of 331 institutions in the Gorilla Prize category. In Indiana, Purdue is ranked second in the Grand Champion category behind the University of Notre Dame, and first in Indiana in the Gorilla Prize category.
This year's Recyclemania began on Feb. 5. More information about Recyclemania, including the most updated standings, can be found at www.recyclemaniacs.org.
Questions about Purdue's involvement in the contest, including which materials are recyclable, should be directed to the Office of University Sustainability at 49-42481 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
