Purdue United Way Campaign seeking greater support

November 8, 2012

Purdue's 2012 United Way campaign is looking for a rush in participation to help it reach its goal of $745,000, with just five work days left until all pledge cards are due.

The campaign still needs $18,700 to reach its goal by the celebration event. To encourage participation, the deadline for pledge cards has been extended to Wednesday (Nov. 14).

Maryanne Santos de Barona, 2012 Purdue United Way chair and dean of the College of Education, says the efforts of the United Way serve local agencies, which work to provide resources to Greater Lafayette as well as reach out to areas in need across the country.

"One group the United Way supports is the local Red Cross, which has sent units to help in many natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy," Santos de Barona says. "We hope people who contributed last year, who have still not sent in their donation, will do so by the deadline. All contributions are needed and very much appreciated in this difficult time."

Faculty, staff and retirees can continue to contribute to Purdue's campaign by indicating an amount on a pledge card and choosing among several methods -- payroll deduction; one-time direct donation; or quarterly, monthly or one-time billing. Purdue employees and retiree donations may be designated to one or more of the 23 agencies helped by the United Way of Greater Lafayette, or for the United Way of a surrounding county.

Faculty and staff still in need of a pledge card may pick one up at Dauch Alumni Center or print one at www.purdue.edu/unitedway/documents/currentemployees-pledgeform.pdf.

Returned pledge cards are kept confidential, and team captains do not know the amount indicated. Cards should be returned to the team captain or sent via campus mail to the alumni center at DAUC by Wednesday (Nov. 14) to be counted in campaign totals.
