The Purdue Alumni Association has named Linda Conner and John Norberg as the recipients of the 2012 Special Boilermaker Award.

Established in 1981, the Special Boilermaker Award honors a Purdue faculty or staff member who has contributed significantly to improving the quality of life or bettering the educational experience for Purdue students. Conner and Norberg were recognized during an on-field presentation at the Oct. 6 football game against Michigan.

Conner (MS '78) is director of student service for the College of Health and Human Sciences and has served Purdue for more than 30 years. Among her duties, she oversees academic advising for more than 5,000 current Purdue students and prospective students.

Norberg is communications manager in the University Development Office and is former speechwriter to President Emeritus Martin C. Jischke. Norberg has written eight books on notable aspects of Purdue's history, through them preserving and conveying University tradition and culture to students, alumni, friends and others.

Purdue Alumni Association also held a reception Oct. 5 to mark 30 years of Special Boilermaker Awards at Dauch Alumni Center. More than 20 former winners attended. Information about the award is at https://www.purduealumni.org/about/awards-programs/special-boilermaker-award.
