Purdue honored for United Way campaign

Purdue was recognized for its fundraising efforts for the 2011 United Way Campaign on Wednesday (Jan. 25) at the United Way of Greater Lafayette annual meeting.   

During the meeting, organizations and individuals that have set the standard for charitable giving and support in the area were honored. 

Purdue received an Award of Merit for Best Overall Campaign for Employees 500 and up.

“There are more than 200 Purdue employees, faculty, staff and retirees who represent the United Way throughout campus during the campaign in the fall.  It is their hard work and dedication that makes Purdue’s campaign so successful year after year,” said Jay Akridge, chair of the community United Way Campaign and the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture.

Maryann Santos de Barona, vice chair of the Purdue United Way Campaign and dean of College of Education, accepted the award for Purdue. Santos de Barona served alongside Al Diaz, Purdue United Way Campaign chair and executive vice president for business and finance, treasurer. 

In addition, Luci Keazer, Physical Facilities senior campaign chair and senior lab engineer in the Office of the University Architect, was honored with an Award of Merit for Employee Campaign Coordinator, and Akridge was recognized as a retiring board member.
