College of Technology food drive exceeds goal

December 6, 2010

Students at the Lafayette and West Lafayette College of Technology locations collected 2,481 pounds of food and personal care items for the college's second annual food drive, surpassing the goal of 1,000 pounds.

From Nov. 15 through Dec. 3, students donated canned goods, nonperishable items, boxed dinners, peanut butter, drink mixes and personal care products in an effort to help those in need in Greater Lafayette.

All contributions from the food drive, which was organized by the College of Technology Ambassadors in partnership with Food Finders Food Bank of Lafayette, will go directly to the food banks of Greater Lafayette and Northwest Indiana.

Under the direction of Amee Biancofiori, president of the College of Technology Lafayette Ambassadors, and Russ Smathers, vice president, students donated 2,035 pounds of food and personal care items. The West Lafayette location contributed the remainder.

"Last year was a great success with the college donating 629 pounds," says Ellen Zouras, president of the College of Technology West Lafayette Ambassadors. "We really wanted to further the success of the tradition that began last year, and I think we did just that."
