Applications sought for LSAMP undergraduate research program

June 3, 2010

Applications are now being accepted for the fall session of the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Indiana Undergraduate Research Program. Also, the program's summer session has scheduled a poster session for July 29.

The LSAMP Indiana Undergraduate Research Program emphasizes the development of broad-based regional and national alliances of academic institutions, school districts, state and local governments, and the private sector to increase the diversity and quality of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) work force.

The program offers student programs on campus to enhance students' commitment to higher education with emphasis on increasing underrepresented minorities. The program is made possible with the support of the National Science Foundation.

The LSAMP Indiana Research Program is offered in the summer, fall and spring. The deadline to apply for fall 2010 is Aug. 27, and the deadline for spring 2011 is Nov. 12.

Eligibility requirements and an application are available at the LSAMP website, www.purdue.edu/lsamp, or by e-mailing lsamp@purdue.edu.

Six Purdue undergraduate students are now participating in the summer session of the research program, which runs through July 30.

The LSAMP scholars are working with Purdue faculty as well as graduate students from the Midwest Crossroads Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate program. The summer session also features workshops on how to create an abstract, a graduate student panel, and a presentation about graduate school.

The students will present their research at a poster session from 3 to 5 p.m. July 29 in the lobby of Lawson Computer Science Building.
