Community support sought for Google Up! Tippecanoe County

March 18, 2010

The City of Lafayette, City of West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County and Purdue are collaborating to become one of the first Google fiber communities in the United States.

Google plans to test ultra-high-speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Google networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most people have access to today with over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections.

As part of the Request for Information (RFI), Google requires a demonstration of community support. Area residents may show their support by:

* Filling out a brief survey available at the Greater Lafayette Commerce Web site, www.greaterlafayettecommerce.com.

* Joining the Google Up! Tippecanoe County Facebook group.

A video that will be included as part of the community response is available here.

Google is collecting applications through Friday (March 26).
