Student Conference on Diversity to encourage campus dialogue

February 16, 2010

Intersections, the 2010 Student Conference on Diversity, will be held Wednesday through Saturday (Feb. 17-20) in Stewart Center. The annual conference, sponsored by the Diversity Resource Office/DiversiKey and the Office of the Dean of Students, aims to engage the campus community in dialogue on issues of domestic and global diversity at Purdue.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to tell their students about the conference and to attend the events.

Conference highlights include a Student Diversity Summit on Wednesday, the presentation of the 2010 Intersections Undergraduate Diversity Research Award on Friday and a Presentations and Performances session on Saturday afternoon.

The keynote presentation will be given by Derrick Ashong, host of the weekly show "The Derrick Ashong Experience" on SIRIUS XM’s Oprah Radio. Ashong, also a musician and lecturer, has dedicated his life to building bridges between the fields of business, media, technology, youth culture, pop culture and politics by seeking the truth and empowering others to make a true difference. The keynote will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center.

Following the keynote, the Purdue University Tagore Society will present its 2010 International Mother Language Day celebration, featuring vocal, instrumental and dance performances representing a variety of cultures.

The full conference schedule is available at www.getinvolved.purdue.edu/Community?action=getOrgHome&orgID=1031. The conference is free and open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to submit an RSVP at that Web site.
