Food drive to take place during Spring Fling

May 14, 2012

On May 17 during Spring Fling, the Purdue University Retirees Association (PURA) once again will sponsor a food drive to benefit surrounding communities.

Spring Fling attendees are encouraged to drop off at least one nonperishable food item at the white truck that will be located near PURA's tent, which will be situated near the message board on Memorial Mall. The truck will be accepting items between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The food will go to Lafayette-based Food Finders Food Bank, which works with 120 partner agencies to bring food to the needy in 16 Indiana counties. Sixty-six of those agencies are located in Tippecanoe County.

Items the food bank needs are peanut butter, noodles, cereal, coffee, soups and stews, pasta and meat sauces, fruit juices, meals in a can or box, canned fish and meat, canned fruit and vegetables, macaroni and cheese, boxed rice and potatoes, paper products, laundry products and personal care items.
