Student nominees sought for leadership program

February 28, 2012

Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate qualified students by Sunday (March 4) for leadership positions in a program seeking to help new international students transition into life at Purdue.

Students nominated as leaders for University Residences Global (UR Global), a student organization, should have strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor others. Experience or interest in global issues, international travel or other cultures is a plus.

Nominations should include students' names and email addresses. They should be sent by Sunday to Annette Benson at urglobal@purdue.edu.

Nominated students will receive a welcome email and an invitation to attend an upcoming open callout to learn more about the leadership positions and the yearlong UR Global program, which pairs returning student mentors with international student mentees.

UR Global leaders will assist with the Boiler Gold Rush-International program and must be able to return to campus on Aug. 6. The program will continue throughout the academic year with monthly events and mentoring opportunities.

The first open callout for UR Global leaders will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday (March 1) in Beering Hall of Liberal Arts and Education, Room 2280. The second will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. March 5 in Shreve Hall, Jade Room.

Students can fill out an application to become a UR Global leader online at www.housing.purdue.edu/urglobal. Applications are due March 9.
