Tobacco cessation classes on campus this spring

Each Purdue campus offers classes for tobacco cessation. These classes can help employees and spouses/same-sex domestic partners meet the approved program requirement for waiving the tobacco-user additional premium for medical benefits.

On the West Lafayette campus, WorkLife Programs offers the Quit Smart class, a six-session program. Quit Smart combines powerful treatments to help participants break free from tobacco. Participants attending this class will learn to ease off nicotine, use their mind to help, use a hypnosis CD, and decide whether to use medication to break the habit. Those who complete an approved tobacco cessation program by one of the dates below will have their additional premium waived on all pay received in 2012 on or after the listed waiver date.

* Complete approved cessation program by Tuesday (Feb. 28) and qualify for waiver of the additional premium beginning on April 1.
* Complete approved cessation program by May 30 and qualify for waiver of the additional premium beginning on July 1.
* Complete approved cessation program by Aug. 31 and qualify for waiver of the additional premium beginning on Oct. 1.

Also, for employees and spouses/same-sex domestic partners who have been non-tobacco users for at least 12 months, they may contact Human Resources to certify non-tobacco user status. The additional premium will be waived on Purdue pays received during the rest of the calendar year, after allowing appropriate time for processing of the waiver.
