Tier 1 lab services now available on Purdue campus

January 11, 2012

The West Lafayette campus has a new location for Tier 1 lab services. The State Street Office Facility, located at 1601 W. State St. and the current home of WorkLife Programs, now offers a Tier 1 lab draw site. A draw site is able to draw blood for lab testing and accept samples for urinalysis.

The SSOF site is open 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The site is closed for lunch from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Employees and dependents covered under any of Purdue's three medical plans may walk in for service, or they may call 49-41872 for an appointment.

When Purdue Incentive and Purdue Copay participants choose a Tier 1 lab, they pay nothing for covered lab work. In addition, because these labs provide service for considerably lower fees compared with other facilities, employees can save Purdue's medical plans hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by using Tier 1 labs.

Although the Purdue Choice Fund with HSA medical plan does not have a tiered lab benefit, participants on this plan can save by taking advantage of the significantly lower fees Tier 1 labs charge.

Most doctors are willing to use the lab that best meets the patient's needs, so employees who want to use a Tier 1 lab should let their doctors know.

Other Tier 1 labs are LabCorp, Mid America Clinical Laboratories, Quest, Alverno and Purdue University Student Health Center (PUSH).
