October is National Work and Family Month

October 12, 2011

WorkLife Programs, in observance of National Work and Family Month, reminds faculty and staff of its services that help provide a family-friendly workplace environment.

These services, in enhancing quality of life through a nurturing and supportive work culture, help faculty and staff in achieving their professional and personal goals.

Congress in 2009 declared October to be National Work and Family Month, following advocacy by WorldatWork's Alliance for Work Life Progress.

Specific information at www.purdue.edu/childcare describes Purdue's family-friendly practices, such as parental leave and lactation support. Resources for those looking for child care are also available.

The site also guides users to education and resources for families -- for example, the Purdue Working Parents Club (PWPC), an on-campus parent network. The PWPC has a Facebook page (go to www.facebook.com, log in and search "Purdue Working Parents Club") where local family-friendly activities are posted and parents can engage each other in discussion.

WorkLife Programs also holds parent roundtables several times a year on various topics of interest.
