Fines to be raised for parking violations

July 21, 2011

Effective Aug. 1, motorists should expect to pay a bit more in fines for parking improperly on the West Lafayette campus.

In conjunction with its ongoing investigation of approaches to better align campus parking revenues with costs, the Parking and Traffic Committee recommended an increase in fines for parking violations. This approved adjustment to charges for parking violations will increase fines from $20 to $35. The last time the fee increased was in 2002. This increase is in line with fines assessed by other Big Ten universities.

In addition, fees for late fine payments will increase from $3 to $10. Late fees have not been increased since they were first assessed in the 1960s.
